I am having a very serious love affair with the heavenly flavour combination that is mango and banana at the moment, especially as the mangos we get in the UK are suddenly far more juicy and sweet than they have been for months. I have been adding mango to everything recently, I think because it gives me a summery, holiday-like vibe, and I am seriously in need of both of those things! This smoothie is both creamy and sweet and light and refreshing at the same time, what more could you possibly ask for?
Originally I just painted the little banana in the jar because I was just going to make a simple banana smoothie, but simplicity isn’t really in my nature. So I decided to add the ‘Go Fruit Yourself’ slogan after having a moment of reflection whilst painting, thinking about how lucky and blessed I am that I was introduced to this lifestyle by my boyfriends stepmother. This is a lifestyle that has saved me from a lifetime of bad eating habits, and an increasingly negative relationship with both myself and food. I no longer feel the need to restrict what I eat, my outlook on life is becoming ever more positive, my energy levels have vastly improved, my skin and hair have not been so healthy since I was a child, and I have also met so many wonderful, positive and inspirational people through being a part of this wonderful community online. This is, of course, Freelee the Banana Girl’s slogan, and whilst I do not always agree with her or her hardcore fans treatment of those who do not lead the same lifestyle as them, I am so grateful to her for showing me that calories do not have to rule your life.
I know I promised ages ago to do a tutorial for these jars, but I am struggling to know what is the best way to show you guys how it is done. If you have any suggestions that would be awesome! I tried to make a video, but my face is so close to the jar so I can see properly through the curved glass that you couldn’t see what I was doing. I could do a step-by-step photo tutorial if anyone would find that helpful! But for now I will just show you a picture of the funny little paintbrush I use.
He might be a little Frankenstein, but it does make it so much easier to paint inside and do smooth, neat lines. However, I do literally make so many mistakes when I am painting these jars, and in the interest of transparency, I thought I would show you how badly I messed up this jar originally! I am not great at hand-drawing fonts at the best of times, but no matter what I did, I could not get the ‘Yourself’ at the bottom of this jar to look how I had imagined it, so as a result I must’ve rubbed and re-painted it at least 3 times. Yep, that’s sheer dedication/lunacy for you.
- • 1 mango
- • 2 bananas
- • ½ cup of water OR coconut milk (I like both, coconut milk makes a slightly thicker smoothie)
- • 4 large crushed ice cubes
- • ½ tsp vanilla bean paste OR 1 tsp vanilla extract
- Cut the mango into cubes, and chop the banana into smaller chunks.
- Crush the ice cubes in the blender.
- Place the mango, banana, water/milk and vanilla into a blender and mix until you have a smooth, creamy smoothie.
